PL/X Series Technical Summary

The PL/X Series DC Drive is a high-performance, fully digital control system designed for DC motor applications with output power ranging from 5kW to 980kW (up to 2250 Amps). It offers industry-leading power density and is available in five compact chassis sizes, featuring both 2-Quadrant (2Q) single-direction and 4-Quadrant (4Q) fully regenerative variants. The drive supports a highly versatile input voltage range of 12V–500VAC as standard, with options available for 600V and 690VAC input supply.

The PL/X is fully user-configurable, equipped with a comprehensive suite of application blocks, including center winding macros and spindle orientation, and features a fully controllable field. Standard I/O includes 17 Digital Inputs, 8 Analog Inputs, 7 Digital Outputs, and 4 Analog Outputs. Configuration and monitoring are managed easily via a 40-character alphanumeric display and the PL Pilot+ Windows-based software. For advanced systems, the drive is IIoT-ready with optional integrated Drive.Web distributed control technology, providing robust Programmable Peer Control (PPC) over Ethernet. Fieldbus communication options are extensive, including Ethernet, Profibus, CANbus, Modbus, and DeviceNet. All frame sizes are CE approved, with UL & cUL listings available for models up to 630A.

Closed Loop Control

 

The PL/X DC motor controller uses closed loop control of armature current and feedback voltage to give precise control of motor torque and speed. The unit also controls the motor excitation field. The closed loop parameters are programmable by the user and a wealth of inputs and outputs are provided to allow very complex motion control processes to be achieved.
